Oxidation-reduction potential and microbial growth

Brewing yeast cell walls treated with hydrothermal reaction have low oxidation-reduction potential, so they can be expected to temporarily lower the redox potential of soil where they are applied.

When the soil’s redox potential is lowered, helpful bacteria are activated, diversity increases, and decomposition of organic matter in the soil is promoted, which is known to help improve the chemical and physical state of the soil. Iron, nitrogen, phosphorus, manganese and other elements are solubilized, and reductive ferrous iron reduces the activity of certain pathogens.
